Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists medical providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions and or with treatments as directed by the provider. Under general supervision of the Clinical Coordinator/ Medical Clinic Manager, performs urological, chemical, and hematological procedures to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Calls patient to the appropriate location for pre-examination information gathering.
  2. Accurately measures and records information: height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, SpO2 and head circumference as appropriate.  Records all measurements and information gathered in patients’ electronic medical record (EMR).
  3. Documents patient’s stated chief complaint in electronic medical record.
  4. Administers medications and injections under Provider’s direction.
  5. Administers immunizations under Provider’s directions, including providing VIS and follow up. Updates vaccine information in OSIIS and patient’s EHR accurately.
  6. Prepares and restocks supplies in examination rooms daily and for subsequent patients.
  7. Functions as immunization coordinator for clinic when needed.
  8. Rounds with and submits reports to State of Oklahoma Immunization Field Coordinator on a routine and as needed basis.
  9. Maintains temperatures, controls and reports of Vaccines for Children (VFC) and any Private Stock Vaccines, according to established CDC guidelines.
  10. Administers, interprets and documents TB tests accurately. 
  11. Able to assist providers in physical exams and procedures as directed
  12. Disposes of contaminated items according to VARIETY CARE policy.
  13. Collects laboratory specimens, such as urine, blood, and other specimens from patients. Using aseptic technique, the MA transports specimens to the Lab tech for testing.  Specimens are registered by the Lab technician.
  14. Performs chemical tests and analysis of body fluids, excretions, and other materials related to clinical medicine and Variety Care policies and procedures.
  15. Processes appropriate specimens for immediate analysis using aseptic technique for personal safety, OSHA, & Universal Precautions.
  16. Posts all lab test results in electronic medical records for study by the Provider.
  17. Sets up and performs maintenance on instruments and equipment utilized in performing laboratory test and procedures.
  18. Performs and records daily check of equipment used to insure accuracy of procedures performed. Checks accuracy of equipment by using samples with known values and maintains quality improvement controls.
  19. Keeps accurate records of daily patient encounters and tests performed. Maintains files for all test results. Creates monthly report of Lab data Medical Director and Medical Support Manager.
  20. Keeps work area clean and orderly. Exhibits a professional manner in dress and work habits.
  21. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization and other related clinical duties, as assigned.
  22. Follows “Universal Precautions” for safety regulations, uses PPE as task on hand requires.
  23. Answers simple patient questions over the telephone and documents in electronic medical record.
  24. Obtains current CPR certificate and checks Emergency equipment monthly.
  25.   26. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Requirements: Education, Work Experience and Specialized Skills/Knowledge:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program.
  3. Must be able to function as a clinical MA as assigned.
  4. Demonstrates ability to obtain and record accurate information.
  5. Ability to use or willing to learn electronic medical records software.
  6. Knowledge of basic computer skills including data entry and typing.
  7. Demonstrates, to the satisfaction of the licensed provider, an ability to perform tasks, administer medications and injections, has knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point of care testing, as directed.
  8. Able to effectively communicate with the patient population.
  9. Able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  10. Able to work in a multi-faceted, fast paced environment.
  11. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  12. Previous clinic or primary practice experience preferred.

 ADA Requirements:

  1. Able to lift at least 25-50pounds.
  2.  Able to stand for extended periods of time
  3. Must have excellent concentration ability.
  4. Able to assist patients on to and off of exam table when asked or directed.
