Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) cares and addresses health care issues to patients of all ages. Provides family health care to the patients of VARIETY CARE, following the standards of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) and at the direction of the Medical Director and/or Supervising Physician.

 

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides quality, comprehensive, accessible and cost-effective patient care through clinical expertise, role modeling, mentoring, consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration and utilization of research.
  2. Performs clinical decision-making that is professional, innovative synthesis of knowledge, clinical evidence, research, scientific theory and APRN/PA process.
  3. Practice excellence and technical assistance is promoted through helping relationships among staff and across other disciplines, support staff and administrative staff.
  4. Follows protocols which provide medical authority when such are indicated in providing care.
  5. Performs physical examinations, screenings and assessments of patients.
  6. Selects orders and/or perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
  7. Utilizes appropriate laboratory tests using prescribed methods and techniques; determines normal and abnormal test results; and develops a health care plan based upon analyzed data.
  8. Defines/documents differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.    
  9. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician.
  10. Interprets data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gases, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician.
  11. Secures health histories from patients and notate findings and treatment course in patient electronic health chart including follow-up notes.
  12. Under direct and indirect supervision of a physician, diagnoses, plans and implements a comprehensive medical care plan based upon the patient’s health needs.
  13. Provides continuity to an individualized health care program for patients by referring to or collaborating with VARIETY CARE physicians and other members of the health care team.
  14. Provides instruction and counseling to individuals, families and/or groups and respects the patient’s personal desires in support of a caring environment focused on healing and preventive care.
  15. Identifies health care needs within the community and makes recommendations on comprehensive health care for patients.
  16. Assists in planning and providing in-service training as needed.
  17. Follows HIPAA guidelines and VARIETY CARE policy and procedures as it relates to privacy.
  18. Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable.  Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Triple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.

Qualifications

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

  1. Recognition as a Nurse Practitioner by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Registration and Nursing Education; certification by the appropriate national Certified Nurse Practitioner organization; and three (3) years’ experience as a licensed professional RN.
  2. Recognition as a Physician Assistant by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision and Physician Assistant Advisory Committee; certification by the appropriate national Physician Assistant organization; and at least one (1) year experience as a licensed Physician Assistant.
  3. Experience working effectively and tactfully with the public and co-workers.
  4. Experience exercising good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; and in expressing ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  5. Possesses skill in providing specialized nursing care in the maintaining of medical records.
  6. Experience giving immunizations.
  7. Experience working in a multi-faceted, fast pace environment.
  8. Must be willing to work at least one day per week in the extended-hours clinic on a day to be agreed upon with the Medical Director.

 

Preferred requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

 

ADA Requirements:

  1. Able to lift at least 25 pounds
  2. Able to assist patients on to and off of exam table when asked or directed.
