Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Psychiatric APRN or PA who cares for patients with both medical and behavioral health problems.  Provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management services to patients of VARIETY CARE, following the standards of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) and at the direction of the Behavioral Health Director and/or Supervising Physician.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders and psychosocial problems.
  2. Assesses the clinical status of patients referred by primary care providers through brief consultative contacts.
  3. Works with primary care team to treat and manage patients with chronic emotional and/or health problems efficiently and effectively.
  4. Assists in the detection of at-risk patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  5. Assists in preventing relapse or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur over time.
  6. Utilizes appropriate laboratory tests using prescribed methods and techniques; determines normal and abnormal test results; and develops a health care plan based upon analyzed data.
  7. Defines/documents differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.    
  8. Completes all required documentation in electronic medical record according to deadlines/guidelines set forth by payers and Director of Behavioral Health.
  9. Secures health histories from patients and notate findings and treatment course in patient electronic health chart including follow-up notes.
  10. Under direct and indirect supervision of a physician, diagnoses, plans and implements a comprehensive care plan based upon the patient’s mental health needs.
  11. Attends and participates in meetings and quality improvement activities as required.                                           
  12. Serves as a member of committees as requested.
  13. Participates in evaluation of peers and support staff
  14. Assists in planning and providing in-service training as needed.
  15. Follows HIPAA guidelines and VARIETY CARE policy and procedures as it relates to privacy.
  16. Provides Telehealth services from remote locations connected to a reliable internet resource including a provider’s home when necessary.
  17. Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable.  Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Triple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs
  18. Embodies the strength of personal character. Qualifications

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

 

  1. Completed a APRN or PA from an accredited educational program.
  2. If APRN must be recognized  as a Psych APRN by the Oklahoma Medical Board; certification by the appropriate national Certified Practitioner organization.
  3. Be eligible to obtain a license immediately to practice in Oklahoma.
  4. Experience making decisions in emergencies.
  5. Experience making quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral
  6. Experience working as a team, interfacing with patients, primary care providers, consulting psychiatrist and mental health specialists, as well as with administrative and support staff.
  7. Experience exercising balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent and equitable manner
  8. Experience working with limited resource population.
  9. Experience resolving interpersonal conflict in a straightforward and timely manner.
  10. Experience setting priorities and organizing.
  11. Experience working in a multi-faceted, fast pace environment.

 

 

 

 

Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

 

  1. One years of prior work experience a plus, but other experience and new graduates maybe considered.
  2. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

 

ADA Requirements:

  1. Able to lift at least 25 pounds
  2. Able to assist patients onto and off of exam table when asked or directed.
