   Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The COVID Tester is responsible for assisting with patient COVID-19 examinations, questionnaires, and treatments and procedures as directed by the Provider, while maintaining an efficient flow of patients through the testing process.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs nasopharyngeal and oral pharyngeal swabs for laboratory testing.
  2. Follows standards of care in handling respiratory specimens (including labeling specimens, transmitting orders to reference laboratories, performing CLIA-waived in-house respiratory testing, and documenting within the electronic health record).   
  3. Complies with CLIA requirements including logging in-house test results and controls.
  4. Immediately notifies the Provider of medical emergencies or of patients suspected of experiencing respiratory distress.     
  5. Communicates with patients about the testing process and quarantine recommendations.  Under direction of medical providers, assists with notifying patients of test results. 
  6. Assists with scheduling patients for COVID testing.
  7. Informs patients of their options for care.
  8. Directs patients and caregivers to the appropriate resources.
  9. Delivers the patient-first experience.
  10. Collaborates with staff to answer patient questions.
  11. Ensures that patient interactions follow the C.A.R.E.S. model.   
  12. Complies with OSHA standards and CDC recommendations for the prevention of COVID-19 transmission. 
  13. Follows HIPAA guidelines and Variety Care Privacy policy and procedure.
  14. Support Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient-Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable.  Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Triple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.
  15. Qualifications

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Expert customer service skills to Include active listening, de-escalating, and empathy.
  3. Expert verbal and interpersonal Communication skills
  1. Experience handling confidential information.

Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge: 

 

  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

 

ADA Requirements:

  1. Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. 
  2. Able to stand for long periods.
  3. Able to use N95 respirator for extended periods.
